Julia Hartley-Brewer has clashed with a leading barrister over the circumstances surrounding the acquittal of footballer Ched Evans.

Charlotte Proudman, a commentator on women’s rights, expressed her dismay at "the level criminal barristers will go to in order to discredit a woman's credibility on the basis that she'd had previous sexual relationships."

Julia Hartley-Brewer then challenged her on the facts of the case, and eventually this culminated in Proudman hanging up the phone when the concept of slut-shaming was raised.

Proudman previously courted controversy when she accused a fellow barrister of sexism over a comment on LinkedIn. She has also described male-dominated environments as "repugnant" and said women dubbed 'angry feminists' should "embrace" the criticism.
