A flight attendant has been suspended after footage emerged online appearing to show her eating a passenger's leftover flight meal.

Urumqi Air released a statement on the matter stating the woman seen in the video, which can be seen here, was a staff member who has now been suspended.

The Chinese airline also confirmed that the food seen in the video was left over, but added that the woman had not correctly handled it.

It said it would try to avoid any other incidents occurring like this by ensuring staff follow procedures it has put in place.

The video appears to showed roughly 15 passenger meal trays lined up side by side, with the stewardess helping herself to one of them.

Some social media users took the flight attendant's side and asked what could be wrong with eating food that would have allegedly been thrown away otherwise. There was also criticism for the person who filmed the video.

They said: “Since the meals are extras and will be thrown away, what’s the problem with her eating it? The one who sneaked the video is a psycho."
