Chris Cornell death: Police suspect suicide

Police investigating the death of musician Chris Cornell say they believe it was a suicide, according to various reports.

Detroit police made the comment hours after the Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman was found dead in a hotel bathroom by a family friend.

His wife Vicky Cornell had called the friend to check on him, according to local news. However, the precise cause of the 52-year-old's death has yet to be established.

The singer had two children with his wife, his 12-year-old daughter named Toni and his 11-year-old son named Christopher.

He also had a 16-year-old daughter Lillian Jean with his ex-wife Susan Silver.

Last night (May 17) the singer had performed at Detroit's Fox Theatre with Soundgarden. The last song he sang was entitled In My Time Of Dying.

The band were part way through a tour of North America and were due to go to Ohio tomorrow (May 19) for another performance.

Their world tour was originally set to end on May 27, according to The Mirror.
