Cleaners at a hotel in Massachusetts found a very unusual item in a drawer after a guest checked out.

A 5-foot golden child reticulated python had been abandoned in the drawer, according to UPI.

Animal control officers were called by staff to remove the animal at the Marriott Residence Inn in Worcester.

Unfortunately police were unable to contact the person who had stayed in the room.

Animal control officer Patrick Cherry said "we tried to find the owner, but he gave the clerk a fake name and just disappeared," according to The Boston Globe.

The reticulated python will now be taken to New England Reptile Distributors in Plaistow, New Hampshire.

The snake can grow up to 18 feet long and is illegal to own in Massachusetts without a licence.
