A number of schools in Ohio closed today after a threat was reportedly made by a man dressed as a clown as he assaulted a woman.
Earlier a woman had reported that a man dressed in a striped outfit, a red wig and a white clown mask attempted to throttle her as she smoked on her porch in the early hours of the morning.
According to local news site WCPO, the clown told the woman "I should just kill you now" and warned "students and teachers [will] wish they were never born at the junior and senior high school today."
Worried about the threats, schools in the district of Reading closed for the day.
In a post, the school district said, "Overnight, a woman in Reading was attacked by a male dressed as a clown and the perpetrator has not been apprehended. During the attack, the victim reported a threat was made against our students. We take all threats to the safety of our students seriously.
"We were especially concerned with the number of students who walk to school in the early morning hours and made the decision to close school. The district is working closely with the Reading Police on this matter. We will make a decision about homecoming activities later in the day as we know more."
Police said no arrests have been made so far.
An Oakdale Elementary student also told officials a man dressed as a clown chased her to school; police continue to investigate the issue.
Many other clown threats have been made recently over social media.
