A “despicable” man who carried out a string of violent robberies at knife-point has been jailed for 35 years.
Ross Dawson, 33, was sentenced for carrying out three robberies and one aggravated burglary in east London.
His victims included an 84-year-old woman and a 61-year-old minicab driver.
Detective Sergeant Billy Baxter said: “This is a despicable individual and whose violent crimes are some of the worst I have ever investigated.
“His sentence clearly reflects the threat he was to the public and the fact he will not be even be eligible for parole until 20 years means his victims are afforded some peace of mind which will help them move on from such a harrowing experience.”
In one incident, Dawson flagged down a lift from an 84-year-old woman after claiming that his pregnant wife was not feeling well.
After stopping on a secluded road, he pushed the elderly victim from the car and sped off.
In another incident he forced a cab driver to the ground and held a knife to his throat in an attempt to steal the victim’s car key.
Dawson was assisted on two occasions by a 15-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons.
The juvenile helped Dawson in a home robbery involving a 30-year-old female.
After being let in by the girl, an accomplice held woman at knife point while Dawson choked her until she blacked out.
The girl pleaded guilty at juvenile court in October 2017 to possession of a pointed and bladed article.
