Donald Trump has hit back following days of speculation about his ties with Russia, saying he is a victim of biased and excessive scrutiny by the media.
"Look at the way I've been treated especially by the media," the Republican billionaire said. "No politician in history has been treated worse or more unfairly."
The US President made the comments while attending a coastguard graduation, hours after reports that he pressured former FBI James Comey to suppress an investigation into his links with Moscow.
This comes hot on the heels of reports that Trump shared classified information with Russia about Isis. Trump has admitted he shared information with Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov, saying he had every right to do so.
However Russian President Vladimir Putin has dismissed the media frenzy surrounding Donald Trump's ties with the country as "schizophrenia" and offered to release details of the conversation between Trump and Sergei Lavrov to the US Congress.
Prior to speaking at the coastguard ceremony, Trump had stayed largely silent following the latest reports - a contrast from his usual rapid-fire style.
In fact, he has not sent a tweet for over 21 hours.
