American billionaire Donald Trump has proposed 'extreme vetting' of immigrants as he continues his campaign ahead of the country's presidential elections.

Mr. Trump, standing for the Republican party, said he intends to temporarily suspend visas from countries with links to terrorism, although he declined to outline which countries would be affected.

The hotel tycoon also proposed the introduction of an ‘ideological test’ for those wishing to come to America during his speech in Ohio.

It is the latest controversy to be stoked by Mr. Trump during his election campaign. In December 2015 he called for a blanket ban on all Muslims entering the US, and he has also advocated the construction of a border fence along America’s border with Mexico.
