Donald Trump celebrates Republican wins in Georgia and South Carolina

Seats in the House of Representatives were retained by the Republican Party

Wednesday, June 21, 2017

Donald Trump was jubilant last night after post-election votes to determine seats in Congress were solidly won by Republican candidates.

The seats of Georgia and South Carolina are typically seen as Republican strongholds, and they were able to hold off Democratic candidates seeking to take the spots in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

The result was met with solid praise on Twitter from the US president.

He congratulated Georgia's candidate Karen Handel and the elected nominee for South Carolina, Ralph Norman, for retaining the seats.

Trump also took a shot at 'fake news' and the Democratic Party in two follow-up tweets.

There will be further mid-term elections for the House of Representatives in mid-2018, where the Democrats have expressed hope of winning seats.
