Donald Trump has vowed he'll build the border wall with Mexico for half the price many analysts are forecasting.
The US President also said "one of the best chemistries" he has had with any other international leader has been Angela Merkel, and hailed his "great relationship" with Chinese leader Xi Jinping during an interview with the Associated Press to mark his first 100 days in the White House.
On the Mexico border, Trump said "the wall will cost much less than the numbers I'm seeing. I'm seeing numbers, I mean, this wall is not going to be that expensive."
When pressed for figures, he added "Oh I'm seeing numbers — $24 billion [£18.8 billion], I think I'll do it for $10 billion or less. That's not a lot of money relative to what we're talking about.
"If we stop 1 percent of the drugs from coming in — and we'll stop all of it. But if we stop 1 percent of the drugs because we have the wall — they're coming around in certain areas, but if you have a wall, they can't do it because it's a real wall. That's a tremendously good investment, 1 percent. The drugs pouring through on the southern border are unbelievable."
Trump said that he had "unbelievable chemistry" with Merkel, and, on his relationship with Xi, "people said they've never seen anything like what's going on right now.
"I really liked him a lot. I think he liked me. We have a great chemistry together."
Turning to the overarching theme of the interview, Trump said that the 100-day benchmark - which has been seen as a crucial milestone for all presidents since the days of Franklin D Roosevelt - shouldn't apply to him as it's an "artificial barrier" and he's "a different kind of president."
