Donald Trump must get on with his plans as soon as he becomes president, else others will work out how to control him, according to a former advisor to Margaret Thatcher.
Trump is meeting Barack Obama at the White House today. He also invited Theresa May to visit Washington during a phone call where both leaders spoke of the importance of relations between America and the UK.
Baron Tim Bell, former communications chief and special advisor to Mrs Thatcher, told Sam Delaney the meeting between Obama and Trump is "a very unimportant meeting. It’s all this stuff about the proper transition of power.
"[Trump's win is] exactly like Brexit, exactly the same situation, when an overpowering elite doesn’t listen to anybody…is having to face doing something differently.
"[Trump] I think he’s got to get on with it, and get on with it quickly, because [government officials will] learn how to control him."
