Donald Trump's meeting with Nigel Farage was "absolutely not the thing to do" according to political commentator Bill Barnard.
Mr Farage became the first UK politician to meet with the US president-elect this weekend, with Prime Minister Theresa May and Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson still waiting for their audience with Mr Trump.
Barnard, a member of Democrats Abroad and author of Dixiecrats and Democrats, was heavily critical of the Republican billionaire when talking to Julia Hartley-Brewer this morning, saying the decision to meet the UKIP figurehead tells "how accustomed Trump is to dealing in international affairs and the kind of protocol that's expected when you're dealing on the world stage."
He also suggested it was a bad PR move for Mr Trump and could create negative preconceptions among other world leaders.
