A columnist's defiant response to Donald Trump's wish for himself and the media to "get along" has gone viral on Twitter.

Earlier this week, Donald Trump gave an hour-long interview to the New York Times newspaper which made a marked change to his fiery response to the paper during the campaign.

In this interview, he softened his stance on a heap of policies he had made during his campaign, claimed that the paper was "an American jewel", and expressed the hope that "we can all get along" ahead of his induction as president in January.

In response to this, columnist Charles M. Blow, has written a column entitled 'No Trump, We Just Can't Get Along', in which he makes it clear no such good relationship will develop, because it's "an absolute obligation" for "all citizens of good faith and national fidelity" to resist him at every turn.

Since the column's publication yesterday, it has since gone viral on Twitter, with users heaping praise onto Blow and calling him "an American hero".
