A man from America was beaten up after he reportedly gave the Nazi salute in Germany.
The incident took place in the eastern city of Dresden on Saturday morning.
The American, who was drunk, is believed to have given the salute repeatedly after leaving a bar in the city's Neustadt area.
At that point, the 41-year-old came under attack from an unknown passer-by, who beat him up and left him with light injuries.
Dresden Police said in a statement that the American was being investigated for an alleged violation of the laws pertaining to symbols of banned organisations.
The assailant - who is yet to be found - faces charges of bodily harm.
The Nazi salute has been banned in Germany since the fall of Adolf Hitler's government at the end of the Second World War, and offenders face strict penalties under the country's legal system.
