The election result has drawn a mixed reaction from top-ranking officials in the European Union.
The voting on June 8 resulted in a hung Parliament, prior to Theresa May confirmed she would form a government with the backing of the Democratic Unionists Party (DUP).
However, the reaction has been met with a measured level of acceptance from three top EU officials.
Guy Verhofstadt seemed rather critical of the overall election decision:
Michel Barnier appeared to be willing to allow the UK space:
Donald Tusk called for a 'no-deal situation to be avoided.
The opening negotiations for Brexit are scheduled to begin this morning.
