The shadow foreign secretary has said that Theresa May is “doomed” because she is not capable of “a good old-fashioned compromise”.
Emily Thornberry added that Labour would not her deal because it does not “look after jobs and the economy”.
Ms Thornberry spoke as Mrs May told Conservative MPs she is “prepared to leave this job earlier than I intended in order to do what is right for our country and our party."
The Labour MP told talkRADIO’s Eamonn Holmes: “Theresa May has been marching up a hill all by herself and saying that it is leadership.
“If you want to get something through then you have to bring people with you. She simply has not done that.”
She added: “Theresa May is doomed. We need a good old-fashioned compromise and she is not capable of that.”
Ms Thornberry suggested that if Mrs May had “listened” the UK would not be in this situation.
MPs are set to vote on eight indicative options, which include proposals to revoke Article 50 and a second referendum on any Brexit deal agreed.
“I think that if Theresa May had listened there was a way that we could have got a deal through that would have looked after jobs and the economy as best it could,” Ms Thornberry said
“It would have been least worst way of going ahead. She was not prepared to listen so we are stuck.”
