George Osborne won't be an MP by the next general election if he remains the editor of the London Evening Standard, says a former editor.
Osborne has been appointed the new editor of the London Evening Standard, yet maintains he will keep his job as the MP for Tatton.
Former Sunday Mirror Paul Connew told Yasmeen Khan: "I think the conflict of interest issue will become increasingly heated. If he’s an MP still by the next general election, whenever that is, I’ll be very surprised."
He also believes "Number 10 must be wondering whether George Osborne will use [his new job] as a platform to argue the pro-Remain case."
Turning to Osborne's new industry, Connew said “many Standard journalists think this is a little bit of a PR gimmick," and the "nitty gritty" work will go to trained journalists down the food chain.
