Explosion hits centre of Rome, reports suggest letter bomb

There has been an explosion in central Rome. 

Local media is reporting a car was damaged in the blast - believed to be a letter bomb - and saying there are no known fatalities. 

Reports have placed the explosion on Marmotta Street near a post office.

There had been some reports which had claimed the explosion had taken place near the UN Building, which is in the same area. 

Authorities - bomb disposal squads and firefighters - worked on the scene, and police have sealed off the area. 

The police have said the situation is under control, and no one was hurt in the incident.
