Five people have been killed after a tram overturned in Croydon this morning, according to the Press Association.

Fifty people have also been injured in the crash and taken to hospital. Four are said to be seriously injured.

Transport for London said the tram derailed just after 6am. The Rail Accident Investigation Branch is at the scene investigating the cause of the accident.

Police have set up a cordon of at least 200 metres whilst investigations continue. The tram is still on its side, appearing to have derailed where the track bends.

British Transport Police have arrested the driver.
