Former Barcelona and Brazil superstar Ronaldinho will stand as a candidate for one of Brazil's most prominent far-right parties.
The World Cup winner, who earned a reputation as a playboy during a career which also included spells at PSG and AC Milan, will stand for the National Ecological Party (PEN) in next year's elections, according to its president.
Adilson Barroso, who is also standing as a candidate, told local news site UOL that, while Ronaldinho has yet to sign a formal agreement, he has given his word to stand in the state of Mino Gerais.
"Ronaldinho still hasn't affiliated, but his representatives have guaranteed that there will be a discussion," Barroso said.
"He's a good person and he demonstrates a great will to help. You never hear a bad word said about him. He's not controversial. He has ethics and character."
However Barroso said Ronaldinho still hasn't decided whether he'll stand as a senator or a representative.
The PEN party is known for its hard-line patriotic, nationalistic politics. Spanish newspaper AS claims Ronaldinho will share an office with a politician called Jair Bolsonaro, an ex-soldier and defender of dictatorship.
