Former Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote has died at the age of 30, a spokesman for the player has confirmed.
The Ivory Coast player collapsed during training at his Chinese club, Beijing Enterprises.
Tiote was renowned as one of the most combative players in the Premier League during his time at Newcastle, and he also played for Belgian side Anderlecht and Dutch club Twente.
Tiote moved to Beijing in February after six years at Newcastle, and had played just six games for his new club.
The cause of death has yet to be confirmed.
"It is with deep sadness I confirm that Cheick Tiote sadly passed away earlier today after collapsing in training," the spokesman was quoted by The BBC as saying.
"We cannot say any more at the moment and we request that his family's privacy be respected at this difficult time. We ask for all your prayers."
