London has been gripped by a fresh panic today as a man tried to attack a police officer at Paddington.

Pictures published on social media appeared to show a topless man being held on the ground by police on a busy road.

Other photos show crowds watching the incident as the man is led away by police, according to the Daily Express.

A video filmed in Paddington showed a man taunting a police officer before taking a suitcase from someone nearby and running at the London Street exit.

The Daily Star claims the man was armed with a knife, although this has not been confirmed.

The British Transport Police have sent a tweet confirming the attack. The tweet reads: "Officers have arrested a man outside Paddington for public disorder and possessing an offensive weapon. The incident is not terror-related."

The reports come just hours after a man drove a van into a crowd of Muslim worshippers in Finsbury Park, leaving one person dead.
