Gavin Williamson may have campaigned for remain but he wants to put "British pride" back into the Ministry of Defence, according to The Sun's defence editor.
Government sources have claimed the Defence Secretary has asked for all EU flags at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in London to be removed and replaced with Union Jacks.
The Sun's defence editor David Willetts told Mike Graham and Katie Perrior that the minister wants to put "British pride back in the building" which is interesting as "he campaigned for remain."
He thinks Williamson is "fighting on multiple fronts, shall we say, and he is working very, very hard to not only protect the MoD’s budget but to see some increase."
Willetts thinks if the minister "comes up with more cuts in June then that’s a problem" however " the military need to make some big decisions" and "they’ve got to give Williamson tools to do the job."
He added: "There are ways you can save money but we’ve got to be ok with the idea of losing some elements of history if we’re going to secure long term solid footing for defence."
Willetts thinks Williamson is "engaging, he really does care about defence, he cares about the people" and "I think he’s a genuine guy and genuine politician."
