General election: 'Theresa May is panicking', says Green Party

Theresa May has called a snap general election

Theresa May is showing that she's panicking by going back on her word and calling an early election, according to the Green Party.

The co-leader of the party Jonathan Bartley made the comments after the Prime Minister announced a snap general election, which will take place on June 8.

This contradicts her previous insistence that she won't call an early dissolution of Parliament.

Bartley told Julia Hartley-Brewer that Ms May knows she doesn't have a mandate, because she only became Prime Minister as other candidates walked away, and suggested the Prime Minister is feeling the pressure as the debate and recrimination over Brexit continues.

But Julia argued that she got the job because she had support of a majority of Conservative MPs.
