"Masterful" Vladimir Putin humiliated Barack Obama and his "squalid" strategy in the row over hacking, said George Galloway.
Our presenter, discussing the expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats from the US on his talkRADIO show, said the reason for the mass ejection wasn't hacking - but rather Mr Obama's repeated foreign policy failures in Syria and elsewhere.
Galloway told his followers: "The high hopes of hundreds of millions, maybe billions of people around the globe, in Barack Obama as president of the United States is lurching to an ugly conclusion. That presidency is ending in failure and farce."
He continued by describing the decision to expel the Russian diplomats as "an absurdity" and "squalid in the extreme."
Mr Putin was widely expected to respond by expelling US diplomats in a tit-for-tat measure, but he declined to do so. Galloway said this was a "masterful diplomatic counter-strike," adding that the Russian leader "wouldn't stoop to the kitchen diplomacy of President Obama."
Turning to the reason for the expulsion of the Russian diplomats, Galloway said the official reason - that Russia hackers interfered in the US election - was nonsense. Instead, he attributed the decision to the "dismal failure of Obama on the foreign policy front and the corresponding success of Putin and Lavrov and the Russian government. They just don't like it up them."
