George Galloway: Nicola Sturgeon wants Theresa May to block another referendum - so she can hold illegal one

George Galloway: 'The SNP will organise their own referendum if British Parliament refuses it'

Our host pointed out the pitfalls of refusing Scotland a new independence referendum

George Galloway has said the Government will only be helping Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP by blocking a new independence referendum.

Our presenter, a fierce opponent of the SNP, said Ms Sturgeon would love to hold an illegal referendum, as the Catalan separatists have done in Spain, and she shouldn't be given the opportunity to do so.

Our host was speaking to a caller, Justin, about the possibility of a second vote for Scotland to secede from the United Kingdom.

Justin believed Scotland had its chance to leave in 2014, and should be refused the chance to hold a new plebiscite - despite the obvious political changes wrought by Brexit.

George pointed out the pitfalls of this choice.

He said: "You’ll only be helping the SNP if you refuse it.

"If we have a situation where the Scottish Parliament wants a referendum and the British Parliament votes to refuse it, that’s exactly what the nationalists want.

“I’ll tell you what will happen. They’ll organise their own referendum. An unofficial referendum, like what happened in Catalonia in Spain.

"The issue doesn’t go away because the British state sets its face against it."
