George Galloway has claimed Catalonia's push for indeoendence have unmasked the true nature of the EU and young people in the country are well aware.
Catalan police clashed with police as they pushed to take part in an independence vote, which had not been approved by the Government. Now the national government in Madrid is locked in a standoff with ministers in Barcelona, as uncertainty reigns over whether Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont declared independence last week.
Galloway said: "I think the EU has been unmasked. Not just in Catalonia but in Greece before it, in both Spain and Portugal before it, dictating who could be in the government and what policy they could follow.
"[Dictating] how much austerity they had to eat, even though in Spain 50%, five-zero, of the young people under the age of 24 are unemployed.
"We talk about how young people love the EU in Britain I don’t know if that's true or if it isn’t, but the young people in Greece, Spain and Portugal and many other places already know differently."
