George Galloway on Donald Trump state visit: 'There aren't enough police officers to protect him'

Donald Trump was offered a state invitation in a move which many have criticised as 'premature'

George Galloway has said Donald Trump would be stupid to accept Theresa May's state invitation.

The invitation made to the US president by the Prime Minister has been lambasted as premature by critics.

While taking a call during his drivetime cover slot, our presenter pointed out there could be significant risks to his safety.

He said: “If 1.7 million people have signed a petition to ban him from the United Kingdom, can you imagine how many people are going to turn out in protest if he actually comes here? And that’s if he keeps his mouth shut.

"If he opens his mouth and erupts, [and that is] endemic in his personality, God knows what will happen.

"The Queen doesn’t have enough soldiers to protect him, there’s not enough police officers in the Metropolitan Police to protect the Mall if he were to come down it in an open carriage.

"It’ll be a really stupid idea."
