A group of Israelis are reported to have caused havoc in a neighbourhood of Jerusalem on Wednesday morning.

The group are believed to have marched through the Silwan area of the city, in occupied east Jerusalem, shouting abuse at Palestinians and vandalising cars.

The events reportedly took place on the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, which began on Tuesday and ends on Thursday evening.

Photos put online by the Wadi Hilweh Information Center, a pro-Palestine citizen journalism project, showed Israeli police officers on standby as the crowd moved through the city streets.

A representative from the Center claimed the settlers hurled insults at local Palestinians, smashing windows, and hurling bystanding rocks at houses.

The area of Silwan has seen a growing rise in the number of Israeli settlers living in the area.
