'ID cards are crucial to ensure NHS stays a National Health Service, not International health service', says Frank Field MP

A leading MP has backed the practice of hospitals verifying ID before granting certain elements of care to a patient.  

The plans currently being looked over by the Department of Health would ensure patients would have to show two forms of ID to gain NHS care. 

Frank Field, MP for Birkenhead and Chairman of the Work and Pensions Select Committee, supported the proposal, calling the move to present ID "crucial for border control and making sure we have a national health service, not an international health service."
