Twitter has gone after Boris Johnson in the ongoing firestorm over his comments about Saudi Arabia.

The Foreign Secretary, speaking at a conference in Rome, claimed the country was "abusing Islam" and was acting as a "puppeteer" in "proxy wars" in the Middle East.

Downing Street has said this was not the Government's view of Saudi Arabia - prompting an avalanche of criticism on Twitter.

Many have asked what Johnson's role in the Government actually is, if he doesn't represent Theresa May on foreign affairs.
