A Ukip MEP has called on Henry Bolton to resign as leader of the party as he was "completely invisible" until his scandal and is "appalling in his judgement."
The Ukip leader has announced that he has split from his girlfriend Jo Marney after she she made racist comments against Meghan Markle. Marney has now been suspended from the party as a result of the scandal.
Bill Etheridge, MEP for the West Midlands, told Mike Graham and Katie Perrior: "Frankly Henry has been appalling in his judgement and appalling in his behaviour and I’m calling upon him to resign.
"Henry, frankly, is letting down the party and the British people. If he’s got an ounce of patriotism about him he’ll step down now."
But he thinks "his ego won’t allow it to happen" and "he’s going to have to be dragged from the position."
He claims Bolton has "been completely invisible until all of a sudden he appears" with "a big scandal which then drags on for three weeks and he can’t deal with it. It’s not exactly a good performance is it."
When asked whether he would run for leadership of Ukip, Etheridge said "it would depend entirely if there was support for me to do it, if there was someone better [than me to do it]."
The MEP believes "Brexit isn’t happening properly it’s a complete con by the Government" so Ukip needs to hold it to account.
Etheridge added that at the moment Ukip is "being made fools of and we’re allowing ourselves to be made fools of" which is "helping all of those people who wish to overturn the referendum result."
