Five children are reportedly dead after their schoolbus plunged into a drain in the Indian city of Amritsar.

Many other children were injured in the crash in the village of Mahawa, the India Post reports.

The students attended the MKD Dav public school and those who have been injured have been admitted to the Arora Hospital.

The bus was reportedly on its way to drop the children at their homes. It is alleged that the driver lost control of the bus, but this has not been confirmed.

Just hours earlier, 35 people died when their bus plunged into a pond in Bihar.
