John Kerry was right to say that Israel are jeopardising future peace negotiations and many countries have a role to play to help the situation, says Baroness Jenny Jones.

The outgoing US Secretary of State Kerry has blamed Israel for the lack of peace in the Middle East and said Israeli settlements were a major problem.

Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the speech, but Baroness Jones, a key member of the Green Party, believes it's in Israel's interest for the international community to take a stand.

She told James Max that John Kerry is "absolutely right that Israel building on occupied land is actually jeopardising any sort of future Middle East peace negotiations.

“The way they have treated the Palestinians, they way they are building illegally…it means that they are making things worse for themselves. So yes, of course we have a role in trying to make them see the light, but we can’t do it on our own.

“Here there is a role for the other Arab states. It’s time that Saudi and Iraq and other countries actually started to support the Palestinians themselves.

“Netanyahu is a very difficult personality and it’s going to be very interesting to see how far he thinks he can go without the 100% backing of America."
