The author assumed Donald Trump had ignored a disabled boy's hand in press footage from the White House

JK Rowling has apologised for a tweet where she had claimed Donald Trump refused to shake the hand of a disabled boy. 

The author of the Harry Potter series had tweeted in response to a video which emerged from the White House.

The footage showed the US President meeting the boy, but not appearing to shake his hand. 

In response, Rowling used Twitter to blast the President, calling it "stunning and horrible."

However, the mother of the boy in question said the author's interpretation of the video was wrong.
