The by-election caused by the death of Labour MP Jo Cox will be held on October 20, it has been announced.

Cox, the MP for Batley and Spen, was murdered on the streets of her constituency in the weeks leading up to the UK's vote on the EU.

The Conservatives, Liberal Democrats and Ukip have all announced they will not be fielding candidates in the contest. Labour will hold a hustings event on September 23 to determine its candidate.
