Julia baffled by guest who blames Hurricane Irma devastation on inequality

Dr Leon Sealey-Huggins attempted to blame the destruction caused by Hurricane Irma on inequality

Hurricane Irma has blitzed the Caribbean, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake

Julia Hartley-Brewer was left speechless on her show this morning by a guest who blamed the devastation wreaked by Hurricane Irma is due to inequality.

Our presenter accused Dr Leon Sealey-Huggins of "getting on a political soapbox" and of ignoring the real issue of how to deal with the aftermath of Irma, which continues to barrel across the Caribbean.

Dr Huggins launched into his argument almost immediately, claiming countries like Haiti are unable to implement adequate flood prevention measures because wealthier countries and individuals are hoarding all the world's wealth.

The interviewee also said Haiti had been hampered by a US-sponsored coup and that the foreign aid system is "not fit for purpose."

Julia hit back at his guest by calling him an "idiot" and said it was "like having a conversation with an aide to Jeremy Corbyn."

She ended up ending the conversation early and saying she was embarrassed for her guest.
