Labour need to "boot out" Ken Livingstone as well as anyone who is guilty of anti-Semitic abuse, an MP has said.

Last night (March 26) hundreds of people went to Parliament Square to protest against alleged anti-Semitism in the Labour Party. It was organised by the Board of Deputies of British Jews and the Jewish Leadership Council and Jeremy Corbyn has sent a letter to them in which he said he is "sincerely sorry" and promises to tackle the issue.

Labour MP for Dudley North Ian Austin told Julia Hartley-Brewer: "The leadership have really got to wake up and understand how serious this is.

"The leadership have got to respond properly to this, they’ve really got to reflect on it and they’ve got to come up with a proper plan of action.

"At the very minimum as a first step boot out Ken Livingstone, right, boot him out of the Labour Party. He has no place in the Labour Party, he should be out.

"Anybody guilty of it kick them out. I mean some of these people have been responsible for coming out with the most appalling anti-Semitic abuse and they send them on a training course.

"I mean a training course, how ludicrous is that, kick them out. There’s go to be no place in the Labour Party for racists and anti-Semites."

He also said "I don’t think any of us could ever have imagined something like [the protest] having to happen" and "this has been, I think, a moment of huge shame for the Labour Party. Utterly unprecedented."
