A Maidstone man who ordered a child sex doll from China has been sentenced to prison.

Brian Leach paid £500 for the life-size item to be delivered to him last year, but never received the package after it was intercepted by customs officials.

Leach, aged 62, was arrested on March 21, 2017 after Kent Police executed a search warrant at his home in Whitmore Street, Maidstone, where the doll had been destined for delivery.

He told police he had used a website to order the doll and had chosen its hair and eye colour. Leach claimed it was to be his companion and denied any sexual motive.

Indecent images

The investigation later revealed he had also accessed indecent images of children on his computer, some of which were in the most extreme category.
Appearing before Maidstone Crown Court Leach pleaded guilty to a charge of improper importation of indecent or obscene articles and to a further charge of making indecent images of a child.

He has now been sentenced to 28 weeks' imprisonment.

Detective constable Kinga Hammersley said: "The size and body features of the doll Leach ordered are of those of a young child. Included in the package were accessories which clearly indicated it to be an object for sexual gratification.
"We work closely with the likes of the Border Force to prevent the importation of obscene items and to protect children from harm. Those who seek to bring them into the country are often linked to other offences. This proved to be the case on this occasion, where multiple images of child abuse were found to have been accessed on Leach’s computer."
