Journalist Tom Harris believes Jeremy Corbyn is miserable in his role

A former Labour MP claims Jeremy Corbyn is "miserable" and may step aside as leader of the party before the next General Election.

Tom Harris, who now works as a journalist for the Telegraph, also suggested Labour faces at least 15 years in opposition if Corbyn doesn't quit.

Speaking to Julia Hartley-Brewer, Harris, who has previously had differences with Corbyn, said "my understanding is that he is miserable in the position.

"There's three years to go until the next General Election possibly, and he may well decide he's had enough before then."

On the resignation of Tristram Hunt as MP for Stoke-on-Trent last week, Harris said that unless a political party has "the prospect of government, then you are going to lose the most talented people from the backbenches."

He also believes no one took Jeremy Corbyn's election seriously in the first place, as "no one thought it was going to last very long."
