The 'no plan' claims in the leaked Brexit memo are not untrue - but Theresa May will trigger Article 50 by the end of March whether we are ready or not, says a leading journalist.

A leaked Brexit memo, first thought to be from the Government, has suggested ministers have no overall plan for leaving the EU. However the Government has now said it was written by an unnamed consultant, and it does not recognise the memo.

John Rentoul, chief political commentator for The Independent on Sunday, told Sam Delaney: “It’s not an untrue story at all, a lot of the things they say in the report [are accurate].

"This story has been seized on because people who don’t want Brexit to happen are absolutely determined to see evidence all around to say it’s not going to work.

“Theresa May said she’s going to start the process of leaving the European Union by the end of March and she’s got to stick to that whether they’re ready or not."
