Sir Vince Cable has suggested Labour and UKIP have all-but-collapsed after last night's local elections.

The Lib Dem grandee said Labour have "folded" while UKIP have "virtually disintegrated" after both parties suffered major losses.

Cable said the result was "neutral" for his own party, but said the Lib Dems had a far better night than the two aforementioned parties.

He also reiterated his party's campaign for a second referendum on the EU, suggesting it seems likely Britain will emerge from the Brexit negotiations with a bad deal.
