A couple caught up in last night's terror attacks have described the shock and turmoil of being told to run for safety by police.

Martin and Susan Poole, from Devon, were staying at the Novotel in Southwark, which was evacuated after the attack on nearby London Bridge.

The couple spoke to talkRADIO in their hotel dressing gowns this morning as they waited for the all-clear to re-enter the premises.

Martin said the alarm went off at the hotel and the guests were rushed out of the building, before being told by police to run "as fast as we could" across Southwark Bridge, just a few hundred metres up the River Thames from London Bridge.

Susan described her fear at the prospect of leaving the hotel and taking to the streets, knowing a terrorist attack was in progress, and said she and her husband had ended up sleeping in the lobby of the Novotel's sister hotel.

Despite the chaos, the Pooles said they had no intention of changing their Sunday plans, bravely vowing not to be deterred by last night's events.
