The Louvre in Paris is now open again after being briefly evacuated.

The famous museum in the heart of the French capital was been emptied of people, with pictures on social media showing a large number of people outside the pyramid entrance.

While the specific reason for the evacuation is not clear, various Twitter users have said there was a security alert

Earlier this year, a guard at the museum was slightly wounded after an attacker came at him with a knife, the latter of whom was subdued after receiving several gunshot wounds.

Paris itself came under attack in 2015 after a group of terrorists killed 130 people in shootings and bomb attacks around the city.
