Mall shooting in Houston, Texas leaves six injured in hospital

A shooting near a mall in Houston, Texas has left at least six people injured, according to authorities.

Houston police have confirmed the gunman has been killed.

Representatives from the local fire department said those injured have been taken to hospital. The area has now been contained, but residents have been asked to avoid it.

RT reported that the Houston Police Department confirmed "an active shooter situation in a shopping centre near the corner of Weslayan and Bissonnet in southwest Houston." 

The attacker has been described as black and carrying a revolver. 

It is believed the shooting began art around 6:20am local time, and witnesses heard steady gunshots.

Some have also reported small injuries to others from things such as broken glass.
