A 25-year-old man has been arrested under anti-terror legislation in connection with an evacuation at London City Airport.

He was arrested on Saturday in east London on suspicion of using a noxious substance to cause serious damage, according to a Metropolitan Police spokeswoman.

The airport was closed for around three hours on Friday and roughly 500 passengers and staff were evacuated.

After his arrest the man was taken to a police station in west London, but has been bailed until late November, pending further enquiries.

The spokeswoman also said the arrest was made under the Anti-Terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001.

The Metropolitan’s Aviation Policing Command are continuing the investigation.
