A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was shot at a hotel in Stockport.

On Tuesday Greater Manchester Police were called to the Britannia Hotel in Offerton, shortly before 2.20am.

They discovered a 46-year-old woman with serious abdominal injuries. She is currently in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

This morning police arrested a 47-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder.

Chief Superintendent Wayne Miller said: "We have one man in custody but our investigation continues as we follow a number of lines of inquiry.

"I would urge anyone who may have been staying at the hotel or was in the area at the time to contact us. Anything that you know, no matter how insignificant it seems, may prove to be vital."
