A man has been charged with the killing of a Muslim teenager as she made her way home in the United States.
Nabra Hassanen was assaulted in the early hours of Sunday morning as she returned from prayers at a mosque in Virginia.
A 22-year-old man, Darwin Martinez Torres, has been charged with her murder, after her body was discovered in a pond in nearby Sterling.
There had been a concentrated search effort from around 4am local time on Sunday morning (11pm GMT), with Hassanen's body being found at 3pm yesterday
Police later said a baseball bat had been found near to her corpse.
The incident stunned the local community of Reston in the northwest of the state.
The Washington Post is reporting a potential motivation behind the incident being a hate crime.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations found anti-Muslim hate crime incidents rose fron 2015 to 2016 by 44%, going from 180 to 260 in a year.
