A man has been fined roughly £111 for painting extra road markings in China in an attempt to make his bus journeys faster.

He was trying to change instructions in a left-turn only lane, so that it appeared as if you could also go straight on in that lane.

Local media said he was caught on CCTV on Monday (November 26) painting another arrow with white paint.

He claimed the two lanes already allocated for drivers to go straight on are not enough as it causes unnecessary traffic, according to The South China Morning Post.

The Modern Express said when police identified the man he said he'd noticed there was always lots of space in the left-turn lane but the others were full of traffic.

It is claimed he then said: "I thought changing the signs would make my commute smoother.”

Road markings have now been altered back to the way they originally were.
