The man suspected of attacking Manchester Arena last night is 22-year-old Salman Abedi, police have confirmed.

The identity of the bomber was previously reported by CBS News and leaked by US officials.

Police declined to comment further on Abedi, as he has yet to be formally identified by the coroner investigating last night's atrocity.

It is reported that Abedi was born in Manchester to Libyan refugees who had fled the Gaddafi regime. He reportedly lived in the Fallowfield-Whalley Range area of south Manchester, which is popular with students.

Earlier today it was confirmed that a 23-year-old man had been arrested hours after a suicide bomber killed 22 people and injured 59 as they were leaving a concert held by US singer Ariana Grande.

Police have also carried out a controlled explosion in Fallowfield and raided a property in the Chorlton-Whalley Range area.

Isis have claimed responsibility for the attack via their Amaq news agency, although Abedi's relationship with the group remains unclear.
